Greenpeace activists today evaded tight security checks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, holding a brief climate change protest outside the main hall of the annual meeting in Davos.

Wearing black suits and white shirts, three protesters managed to enter the Convention Center and climb onto a balcony. Two of them then unfurled a large banner that read: “Tax the super rich. Fund a fair and green future.”

Security personnel intervened and removed the protesters, shortly before the official opening ceremony and a speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

“The three activists were removed from the scene,” Greenpeace activist Clara Thompson said later by phone. Asked how they managed to break through the security cordon, Thompson said: “They had their way and their means, I can’t say more.”

The message to businessmen and politicians attending the meeting in Switzerland echoes another Greenpeace protest yesterday, Monday, during which activists blocked the Davos heliport.

Security is tight at the World Economic Forum meeting where one of the main topics of discussion this week is “protecting the planet”.

The World Economic Forum said in its 2025 agenda that it is “critical for businesses, governments and civil society to work together to find common solutions and take decisive action”.

Demonstrators protesting fossil fuel subsidies also on Monday threw green paint on the storefront of a temporary base Amazon has set up on Main Street.
