Extraordinary meeting with the theme of mild seismic-volcanic activity The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, convened today- on the basis of the instrumental observations- in the field of Caldera, Santorini.
At the meeting the Implementation of the necessary prevention actionsin collaboration with representatives of the scientific community, central administration, local government and business bodies. The purpose is to better prepare the entire Civil Protection Mechanism in Santorini, taking into account the particularly geological, geomorphological and socio -economic characteristics of the island.
According to her suggestion Permanent Scientific Committee for Monitoring of the Hellenic Volcanic Arcan increase in activity is recorded in the central rift of the burned northern part of Kaldera. For this reason, the Scientific Committee is constantly monitoring the phenomenon, analyzing the data and updates the design of similar prevention actions.
This volcanic activity is similar to 2011-2012, which lasted about 14 months and was completed without a volcanic event. According to scientists, based on the data available so far, there is no reason for particular concern.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Natural Disaster and State Relief, Mr. Christos Triantopoulos, the Secretary General of Self -Government & Decentralization Mr. Savvas Chionidis, the Secretary General of Civil Protection Mr. Vassilios Papageorgiou . Efthimios Lekkas, the President of the IMPIS Mr. Costas Papazachos, Staff and officials of the Fire Brigade, GAPP, OASP and EAGME.
