War in Ukraine: 60% of Greeks consider Russian invasion “unacceptable”

The 60% of Hellenes considers it “unacceptable” invasion of Russian forces in Ukraineaccording poll of Euroscopypublished by Politico.

THE measurement conducted in six countries (Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Netherlands and Hellas) and while most respondents showed sympathy for Ukraine, 17% said the invasion was either “acceptable” or “unacceptable but understandable”.

The behaviors differed significantly by country, with one-third of respondents (34%) in Greece saying they could understand Putin’s actions, compared with just 9% in the Netherlands.

To the question whether “you consider the Russian attack unacceptable”, they answer positively:

Greece: 60%
Italy: 71%
France: 78%
Germany: 82%
Spain: 86%
Netherlands: 88%

Respondents were clear that war was a threat to their own countries, with 57% of citizens in the six countries surveyed saying they believed their country was in “too much” or “some” danger.

In Italy and the Netherlands, this percentage was 63% and 60% respectively. In Greece it is 53%.

There was also disagreement over the need for the EU to set up its own army so that countries do not depend on NATO. 63% of respondents in Greece supported the idea, compared to only 27% in the Netherlands.

There was also strong support in France and Spain with 51%.

Support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is strong in many major EU countries, although Europeans remain divided on whether this should happen immediately.

The majority of Spaniards (53%) answer “yes, immediately”, while the support from Germany is also strong, as 63% answer “yes, immediately” or “yes, but in 2 years”.

Greeks are ahead of the negative answers with 39% answering “no” to Ukraine’s participation in the EU.

The poll, conducted between March 8 and 11, looked at the views of 1,000 adults in each country.
