Santorini is facing an extreme seismic situation – 3D video captures earthquake activity on the island from January 25th until today
OR Santorini It is facing an extreme seismic state that highlights the ongoing geological turmoil of the area, with scientists studying the phenomenon.
Researcher Pavlos Krasakis, a graduate of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the NCSR, created one 3D video which captures the seismic activity on the island from January 25 to the present day.
The scientific data on the creation of the video has been drawn by the studies of Evi Law, Professor of Geological Oceanography and Physical Geography and from the Department of Geology of the University of Athens (Data Data: Lawyer etc. (2019), Onshore Data: Copernicus, Seismic Data: NKUA – Department of Geophysics, NOA).
– The yellow dots represent the recent seismic events from January 25th (5 February 2025).
– Blue circles represent historical seismic events less than 6R.
– Red dots signal historical seismic events> 6 r such as the Amorgos earthquake in 1956, one of the strongest events in the history of the area.
– Red lines represent rifts with high risk and
– The yellow lines represent rifts with medium risk.
