Zacharias

The Prophet Zacharias is the eleventh of the series of the small so -called Prophets of the Old Testament. He came from the genus of Israel and the race of Lefi. He was born in the city of Galad, Palestine during the period of Babylonian captivity, and his name means, in Greek, the memory of God, that is, the one that God is remembered.

He was the son of Barachius and his grandson. Zacharias, he was the one who, with the Prophet Angan, touched the Jews when they in 537 with 536 BC. They returned to Judea to rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem. There is a view that the prophet Zacharias belonged to a priestly genus and was a priest himself.

During the Jewish tradition, Zacharias and the Angean were members of the Great Synagogue, which defined the rule of the books of the Old Testament. Emperor Theodosius the Great (379-395 AD) built a temple dedicated to the Prophet Zacharias in the Monastery of St. Domniki Constantinople. Also the temple of the Prophet was on the mountain of Auxentius, in a place where “theater” was called.
