In the children’s camps of the Municipality of Athens, in Agios Andreas, today 104 people from Santorini were transferred, mainly families with young and children, affected by intense seismic activity.

The residents of Santorini will be hosted in the camps for as long as the municipality has already received applications to welcome others.

The houses, fully equipped, clean and heated on a very cold day, were ready in the morning to accept families with young children who were forced to leave their homes.

The first 53 arrived by coach around 11am and were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Olga Dourou.

The camp, in addition to the houses, has large lush spaces in nature, stadiums for play, a lounge, recreation area, and provides internet.

“With a smile and no panic,” says little Selina

A symbol of power and optimism becomes Little Selina, in the way it faces all this difficult situation. She goes to Elementary Elementary, arrived at St. Andrew with her family and accompanied by her father told RES-EIA:

“Unfortunately we had to leave Santorini because of the earthquakes. Many are leaving and sad, but we hope now that we have come to Athens, things are better. We no longer have this stress for earthquakes. The truth is that I was terrified quite a bit these days, there were strong earthquakes. “

However, Selina treats the situation with a smile. “I try in such situations not to be upset and not to panic and try to have a smile and give my dad and my sister courage,” she says and adds as a message to those who have left on her island:

“For me it is sad that the school closed. I want to tell my classmates not to worry, but to deal with the distressed things with a smile. And not panic, because when panicked, the situation gets worse. They too give courage to their parents and the parents of courage to the children. “

“We need extra help from the state”

The Municipality of Athens is awaiting other arrivals, and tomorrow is expected to visit the guests by Mayor Haris Doukas.

Speaking Mrs Dourou in RES-EIA, she said: “We have the opportunity to give up 25 houses, we are already at 23. From there, we need extra help from the state to meet needs, because we are constantly accepting requests. So far we have received more than 300 requests for temporary housing by residents of Santorini. “

On the issue of helping the state he said, Mrs Dourou explained: “The longer this seismic phenomenon holds, the more needs there will be temporary residence, perhaps feeding in the future. And we do not ask for it as a municipality, but I think that when such a large population is displaced, because the situation in the space is dangerous, there must be an organized state intervention, because these people do not have the financial means or the familiar environment. , which can host them for an unknown period of time. And our potential are naturally finite, as you understand. “

And for the hospitality area, the Deputy Mayor of Athens said: “The facilities are ready, the heated areas as you have seen, we offer heating, bedding, we will also offer feeding for this weekend and on Monday there will be an infrastructure for each family. Have her own kitchenette and be able to cook her food. It is also an area that has access to many points that can move, there is a transport network and is a guard at the same time, so there is security. And it is a very beautiful place, in nature. “
