The Municipality of Thessaloniki is planning to remove about 700 abandoned vehicles by the end of 2025, with the aim of releasing a corresponding number of parking spaces. These are saravals that have been left on the streets of the city for a long time by their owners, occupying valuable parking spaces while being a risk to the environment, health or safety of citizens.

In this context, the Municipality of Thessaloniki introduces a new way of alerting to the citizens who leave their vehicles anywhere.

From now on, in any complaint made by citizens or by the auditors, the municipality will warn the owner with a new orange warning sticker stating that the holder has been informed to withdraw his car so as not to be described as abandoned.

In the event that it does not comply with the instructions of the competent service, the new red notice shall be placed with which the vehicle will have to be removed from the owner within 45 days, but which will also be accompanied by the fine of the service.

Although then it does not comply with the suggestions, it will be withdrawn from the municipality.

If a vehicle moves without signs or is abandoned on the road without signs, it will be removed, the municipality will impose a fine and promote the case on traffic and AADE to impose additional fines.

It is noted that in the same way for bicyclists – trailer etc, the new green notice will be applied which will notify its owner that, within 15 days, it will have to withdraw the scooter, otherwise it falls into the municipality’s jurisdiction for its withdrawal and imposed the Fine applicable to scooters in accordance with JMD 1002901/2002 and cleaning regulation.

In 2024, the Municipality of Thessaloniki carried out checks on 1,233 vehicles, 573 of which were highlighted as abandoned and 172 were recycled.
