Discover the 2-meter pizza, the 1 kg cheese bread and other giant foods in SP

From the one-kilo cheese bread to the 700-gram meat sandwich, from the three-meter churros to the one-kilo pastry, giant foods spread across São Paulo — and seduce those with the most ogre hungers in the city, but especially those who want only post a selfie on social media.

The small pizzeria Sabamta, in Jardim Conceição, in Osasco, for example, has become famous in recent weeks on social media after a video was shared to exhaustion, in which a customer displays one of the pizzas of the place. With one detail: it is two meters long.

There are 12 flavors, 96 pieces and a price of R$280. The success on the internet and people’s astonishment are so great that the pizzeria has been receiving orders from other states, such as Bahia and Minas Gerais.

“I was looking for a differentiator to stand out from the competition”, says Diego Neves, a partner at the restaurant, which has been in existence for four years. “Here in Osasco there are many pizzerias. So we started looking for suppliers and studying the production of these pizzas.”

The idea came up in the middle of last year and boosted sales so much that the owner is already thinking about moving to a bigger place — and, who knows, opening branches in another city. “There are so many requests for a unit in Rio de Janeiro that I’m thinking about opening there”, he says. The house does not reveal how many giant pizzas are sold per week on average.

Despite the interest, the address only works with delivery and deliveries in Carapicuíba, Cotia and the São Paulo neighborhood of Butantã, in addition to Osasco, of course. Apart from the price of the pizza, the shipping can also be salty — you pay R$ 60 for the motoboy to transport the recipe from two meters to the customer. In other words, the game costs R$ 340. But the division favors the order: each piece costs about R$ 3.50.

“There are people coming from other neighborhoods. Our pizzeria doesn’t have a different dough or a special ingredient, it’s a normal pizza. But curiosity has made people travel miles here”, says Neves.

In deliveries, the unusual is included in the motoboys’ backpacks. To hold the giant mass, you need a compartment just over two meters wide. “I always get pictures of people who saw one of our motoboys in traffic and thought it was funny.”

The case has also seduced famous profiles on social networks. “We are receiving requests from influencers and gastronomy pages. We recently took a two meter one to Camila Loures’ house [youtuber e personalidade online com 17 milhões de seguidores no Instagram]. She would never order a traditional pizza here.”

In addition to the two-meter version, the place also roasts 70-centimeter rounds with 32 pieces (R$ 92) and also 1.5 meters, which has 64 pieces (R$ 175).

But it’s not just pizza that has been fermented in São Paulo. Hamburgers, cheese breads, drumsticks and other goodies also gained mastodontic versions at addresses throughout the capital and the metropolitan region. In common, a much greater interest in size than in taste.
