Saint Gerasimos the Jordanite

Saint Gerasimos Jordan was born in Lycia in the 5th century AD. From pious and humble parents and infants devoted to God. At an early age, he embraced the heresy of the Monophysites, drifting away by the followers of the heretical pseudo -patriarch Theodosius, a fanatical monophyus of Egyptian monk, who in the absence of Patriarch Juvenali (422 – 458 AD), He managed to occupy the patriarchal throne of Jerusalem and to make inexplicable cruelty for twenty months (451 – 453 AD). Even this sailboat of the Resurrection became the theater of indescribable scenes and in addition the riot spread throughout Palestine.

Soon, however, Saint Gerasimus understood his mistake because he was a man with a good choice and a humble mind. He had the good habit of visiting and consulting about spiritually sanctified people. From a ascetic word called Efthimios and practiced in the Rouvas desert, he taught the truth about both the nature of Christ, understood his mistake and returned to the Church again.

Then he was in 451 AD. A monk in the Jordan desert, where he was quiet. Later, when many monks gathered around him, who demanded his enlightened guidance, he founded a communal monastery near the city of Vaithagla.

Saint Gerasimos was strict, but only in himself. In others he was a good -natured and forgiving. He ate a little while he needed to be preserved in life, and he also slept very little. He even taught that anyone who wants to live longer should sleep less, because he is very sleeping, making the body tender and thus powerless and vulnerable to diseases.

When on January 19, 473 AD Saint Efthymios the Great, Saint Gerasimos saw in a vision at the time he prayed in Lavra, the end of Saint. Two years after the end of Saint Efthimios, in 475 AD Under Patriarch of Jerusalem Anastasios I (458 – 478 AD) Saint Gerasimos slept with peace. Lavra’s succession was commissioned by his associates Stefanos and Kingdom.
