Works to deal with water scarcity in 16 islands in the country are immediately launched with the signature of the decision and the issuance of the relevant invitation by the Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis

The projects include the islands: Fourni, Leros, Tinos, Patmos, Kea, Ithaca, Lipsus, Paxos, Karpathos, Meganisi, Naxos, Spetses, Poros, Hydra and South Corfu.

The overall budget of the interventions is covered by the Department of Development Program of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and is implemented under the National Development Program 2021-2025.

The projects were prioritized and launched after a fruitful cooperation of the Ministries of Environment and Energy and Maritime and Island Policy.

The good government cooperation, under the direction of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is yielding fruit. After a thorough examination of the water needs and the necessary projects in island municipalities by the competent Secretaries -General of the two Ministries, Petros Varelidis (of the Ministry of Environment and Energy) and Manolis Koutoulakis (of the Ministry of Maritime and the Ministry of Maritime, Interventions aimed at dealing with water scarcity in our 16 islands. In total, the first cycle of projects relates to 19 municipalities in the country, of which 16 are islanders. The total budget is reaching 18,000,000 euros and is covered by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Sectoral Development Program. Our government in consultation with the local government of our islands, listens to the islanders and gives solutions to the problems
