“We are waiting for the moment” – What the BBC correspondent who lost his flight, as well as many more from England because of Black Out in Heathrow
Trapped in Greece, for several hours, many Scotland fans, Tartan Army, were called, as they could not return through Heathrow to England after the fire that broke out at an electric substation and forced Europe’s largest airport, Heathrow to close.
A BBC correspondent found in Greece for the Scottish match against National, he said earlier that the fans could not to leaving as their flights were canceled.
However, in a new update he gave to the British network, he described how found a way to travel Back to their home country with other flights.
As he transmits:
“After the match last night the Greek police kept us for 45 minutes, so we didn’t leave the stadium until shortly after 00:30 local time. We slept for a while and got up at 5:30 – just to tell us that our original flight had been canceled.
We were lucky enough to find a place on another Gatwick flight. They are not cheap positions, but we are happy to be on a flight to London!
We had to check-in with another airlineand then to pass through passport control and the safety. The layout of the Athens Airport is such that you have to go through passport control as the next step after first scanning your boarding card on departures. So we had to take another stamp on our passport.
We know some other friends of Tartan Army who attempted to take return flights to Scotland via Dublin; Milan and Rome. I have even heard Constantinople mentioned. “
