The fire has taken on dimensions and due to strong winds do not attempt aerially – sent message from 112 to remove residents
A forest fire in the area of Agios Nikitas near Kathissa Beach of Lefkada, in a forest area, broke out on Sunday afternoon.
Strong winds blow in the area so they cannot reach aerial means, although they were called.
They operate 34 firefighters with 2 groups of hikers of the 5th EME, 10 vehicles.
The fire broke out near a residential area and therefore initially sent to the residents by “112” to be on alert. However, shortly thereafter, a second message of removal from Saint Nikitas to Lefkada followed.
The fire in the seat has taken huge dimensions and has passed on the mountain over the road going down the beach. The air is very strong and until this time it does not allow aerial means to be lifted. Aid was also requested by ground forces from Epirus and Western Greece.
