Biography

St. Argiri is a neo -martyr of the Orthodox Church born in Bursa, Asia Minor in 1688. marriage patron and is depicted holding the ritual wedding crowns.

At an early age, she asked her to marry her Muslim, also demanding that she change religion and become a Muslim, which Silver refused.

At the age of 17, her parents married her with a Christian young man, which caused the rage of the Muslim. A few days after the wedding, according to the custom of the area, the newlyweds went to the temple, with the woman dressed in her wedding dress. Then the Muslim who wished her, the head of the group of other Muslims abducted her and led her to the Bursa Court of Justice, saying she had supposedly promised to change religion.

This kind of slander was a common means of blackmailing Christians during the Turkish occupation. Silver denied that she wished to change religion and denounced the slander of the Turk. He was transferred to Constantinople, where the trial was repeated, and was eventually imprisoned and tortured for 17 years in a prison in the Haskioi area. A wealthy Christian merchant offered to make money for her liberation, which she refused by describing the prison “royal palace of the king of Christ”.

She died on April 5, 1721. Prior to her death she shared the vast mysteries that an Elder brought to prison hid in raisins.

He was buried in the enclosure of the Church of Agia Paraskevi in ​​Hassi.

On April 30, 1725, her relic was recovered, which was found to be fragile, and was placed in the church of Agia Paraskevi, with the permission of then Patriarch Paisios, and was set to celebrate her memory on April 30.

During the pogrom of 1955, the Turks burned Larnaca and destroyed the relic, but a small piece was saved.
