Deep sadness in the society of Chania in the news of the death of the Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas Damaskinos, at the age of 67, according to zarpanews.gr.

His Highness left his last breath on Tuesday afternoon after problems with his health. He had undergone two surgeries in less than a year, the first of which he had done in July 2024 and the second two weeks ago.

Unfortunately, in recent hours his health has deteriorated, so he ended up, filling the society of Chania.

Damaskinos Papayannakis was born in Chania in 1958.

He graduated from the Thessaloniki Theological School in 1989. He then completed postgraduate studies in the same school.

In 1976 he was a monk. On July 5, 1981, he was ordained a deacon and on July 31, 1982.

He served as a pastor and preacher in the Cathedral of Kydonia. In 2001 he was appointed Protector of the Metropolis of Kydonia.

On November 7, 2006 he was elected Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas by the Holy District Council of Crete.

On November 18, 2006, he was ordained to the Church of St. Minas Heraklion Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas.
