Koronovirus: Only 14% of those unvaccinated over the age of 60 paid the fine of 100 euros

by

Only 14% of unvaccinated over 60 years of age paid the fine imposed on them by the government for refusing to be protected by the coronavirus. According to the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE), a total of 317,962 individuals were found fined 50 euros for January (the fine reaches 100 euros in February). The imposition of half the fine is for a fortnight, as the deadline for vaccination expired on 15 January.

Of all the above individuals, 297,207 were notified by e-mail (electronic notification), while 20,755 were notified by registered mail. The January fine had to be paid by 15/3/2022 and, according to the tax administration, only 44,000 paid it. The rest have been included in the list of overdue debtors and surcharges are already “running”. In fact, in the next period, the tax administration will initiate the relevant procedures provided by law for all debtors, ie seizures of assets even for the amount of 50 euros. In the coming days, the deadline for payment of the fine (February) for those who still ignore the decisions and laws on vaccination expires.

The fine imposed on the unvaccinated states that it is challenged in court by bringing an action before the ordinary courts. In case of dispute over the imposition of a fine due to non-obligation of vaccination or the existence of a legal reason for exemption from this obligation, instructions are provided at the email address emvolio.gov.gr/prostima regarding the procedures to be followed to lead to its deletion.

Many unvaccinated people over the age of 60 are requesting the cancellation of the fine imposed on them, while at the same time the unvaccinated health professionals who have not been vaccinated and therefore their salaries have been withheld, demand that the amount be returned to them, considering the act unconstitutional. .

The tax authorities will proceed with the seizure of assets, even for the amount of 50 euros in January.

Several of the unvaccinated went to the tax authorities to file an appeal with the aim of canceling the fine imposed on them, although the law does not allow it. What they can do, as mentioned above, is to appeal to the administrative courts, while those who have been vaccinated should enter the website emvolio.gov.gr/prostima in order to follow the procedure to be deleted.

It is noted that the heads of the tax offices were instructed by the central administration not to receive any appeals, as the relevant procedure does not allow it.
