Attack by two rashes was received on Thursday night in the Karyes of Mount Athos Monk of the Holy Monastery of Esfigmenos, resulting in his injury as the monastery complains.
“The attacked individuals came out of the occupied building of our monastery and while wearing a razor, they do not belong to Mount Athos and the Eastern Orthodox Church. One of them injured one of the members of the Brotherhood of Esfigmenos Monastery, hitting him with an object in the head and also with their heads.
According to the announcement, “the enforcement of the law and the observance of the security and legality of Mount Athos that are in the sole responsibility of the state proves to be non -existent”.

Today, May 22, 2025 at 20:00 in the afternoon, and while three members of the Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Esfigmenos cleaned a flowerbed near the occupation of the monastery’s delegation in Karyes, in the context of the annual dignity for their imminent feast of elements.
The attacked individuals came out of the occupied building of our monastery and while wearing a Rasa, they do not belong to Mount Athos and the Eastern Orthodox Church. One of them injured one of the members of the Brotherhood of the Esfigmenos Monastery, hitting him with an object on his head and punches. He also detained by screaming and threatening two other fathers, while throwing dirty waters.
An ambulance was called which received the injured person hospitalized at the Mount Athos Health Center and was informed by the Kares Police Department.
The Brotherhood of Esfigmenos Monastery once again denounces the indifference of the Greek government thanks to which the occupation is perpetuated, both in the monastery and the delegation in Karyes, thus still in danger of the physical integrity of its members.
The enforcement of the law and the observance of the security and legality of Mount Athos that are in the state’s sole jurisdiction proves to be non -existent.
