Problems continue at airports due to the stormy southern winds blowing in Crete, significantly affecting certain airline flights, as well as the operation of the “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport, from morning until late Saturday afternoon (24/05).

In particular, as neakriti.gr reports, a flight from Vilnius, Lithuania, failed to land at Heraklion Airport due to strong winds. As a result, the aircraft returned to the airport of departure, and reportedly the flight is expected to be repeated later with a different aircraft.

It is recalled that earlier, two scheduled international flights, one from Zurich and one of Brussels, failed to land at Heraklion Airport because of the very strong winds blowing in the morning. The pilots, after an unsuccessful landing attempt, were ordered to return aircraft to Athens Eleftherios Venizelos for security reasons.

The winds of the winds exceeded the limits of safe landing, with bursts that even touched the seven beaufort, making the conditions for the aircraft operators extremely difficult.

Passengers were informed of the situation and transferred to Athens until the weather allowed their journey to take place normally.

According to the National Meteorological Service, the South South is expected to continue in the coming hours, with authorities on alert.
