An evolving explosion in the Fuego volcano in central Guatemala has forced more than 700 people living in the nearest communities to leave their homes, the Conred Country Country Office announced today.

The volcano, about 18 kilometers from the city of Antigua in Guatemala, releases ash clouds of about 4.8 kilometers and a lava current that accumulates around its crater, added the Guatemala seismological service.

Authorities said they were still watching the situation.

In a report published shortly after midnight on Friday, Insivumeh reports that the flow of lava appears to be about 1.2 kilometers.

“This continues to accumulate unstable around the crater and tall parts of the streams, which could collapse and cause more firearm flows,” the report said.

This country of Central America, which is about the size of the Tennessee state, USA, has 37 volcanoes, though many of them are considered inactive or disappeared.

The Fuego volcano is known for its frequent activity. In June 2018, his most violent explosion for about four decades caused the deaths of more than 200 people.
