The pilot 24 -hour operation of the subway, tram and selected bus routes in Athens, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, announced from the House.
As he made known, the measure will be applied Saturday July 5th (for a Saturday), on a test basis, in order to evaluate its effectiveness and acceptance by the public, but also whether the necessary security conditions are met for adequate trains.
The operation will be 24 hours a day, with the aim of providing safe movement during the afternoon hours, especially for young people who have fun in the city during the summer months.
“We have to send a clear message: that our children can return home safely, without going into the process of driving having consumed alcohol,” Mr Kyranakis said.
He publicly thanked the workers in STASY, OSY and OASA, as well as the unions that have made proposals, noting that “they are the ones who will put back to achieve the venture”.
Continuing and permanently fixed the measure, either for each Saturday or for specific days of the year, will be examined after completing a sustainability study
