‘We hope a second miracle happens’said today, POEDIN President Michalis Giannakos, speaking on SKAI’s 100.3 radio about the two children aged 15 and 14 who yesterday afternoon, were recovered without their senses, from the Arachthos River in Arta, where they had gone.
Children are hospitalized in a very serious condition at the Intensive Care Unit of Children’s Hospital in Rio, where they were transferred yesterday afternoon.
“There was a titanic attempt to recover and they did it,” the POEDIN President said, noting that “this is a medical miracle” and that they “won the first battle for life”. However, he stressed that “things are difficult”, doctors are on them and that the problem is that the children were left several minutes without oxygen
The two boys were initially taken to Arta Hospital where they were intubated. Reportedly, the axis of the two children presented edema, while a water supply was found in the lungs. Subsequently, the accompaniment of police forces, the two minor boys were transferred to the University Hospital in Patras.
The children were recovered without their senses from the river thanks to the intervention of the locals. Within just 10 minutes of their location, two EKAB ambulances arrived at the spot, with rescuers immediately starting KARPA.
What did the man who dived to save children
Dramatic are the descriptions of the man who dived with self -sacrifice in the frozen waters to save the two children: “I took off the clothes. I was not up to the depth. I got into the boat jumping and finding one child. We take it out. They say another one. I go again I don’t find it. Again with the force I was taking a breath. I was forced to get it out »he said.
What happened
The group of four children had gone for swimming on the Arachthos River in Neochori Arta. While playing and swimming the two boys, they were lost under the water. Immediately, the other two children in the group panicked asked for help.
More specifically, the children were reportedly at a point where the water height reaches 6 meters. When the child came in he could not go out. Then the second child came in. The other two, however, did not come in. They informed the people who were in a cafeteria near the spot and by boat the man was able to approach the pillar and was able to get the children out of 7 meters deep.
“A little kid came and asked us for help. He said to run quickly because two of his friends from the 4 who bathed had not appeared. Customers from the store took the two boats from the port. They tried to find the kids »said a shop owner.
