The Holy Martyr and Bishop of Patars honors Friday, June 20th, the Orthodox Church.

According to the calendar they are also honored:

  • Saint Nicholas the Kavasilas
  • The Saint Callist the Patriarch of Constantinople

Saint Methodius lived in the 3rd or 4th century and, according to some sources, was not only a bishop of Patriots, but also Tire or Philippi. He was educated, a vigorous orator and a fiery defender of Orthodoxy against the evils of the hourly maturity. He fought vigorously the heretical teachings and, according to tradition, found a traitor’s death, remaining steady until the end of his mission.

His most important work is preserved is the “Symposium of the Ten Virgins”, a spiritual allegory dedicated to the virtue of purity.

Patriarch Callistos I was born in the late 13th century and emerged in a prominent form of the quiet movement on Mount Athos. He was a close student of St. Gregory of Sinaitus and starred in the theological struggles of his time, defending the teaching of Gregory Palamas.

He was twice as an Ecumenical Patriarch, and his action included reforms in the Church, convening sectors of heretics, administrative acts, and intense writing. He died in Serres in 1364 during a diplomatic mission. Our Church honors him as a Holy and Court of Justice of Orthodox faith.
