He is expected to be brought before the prosecutor’s office today 45-year-old priest from Farsala, who had left the Court last week before the verdict against him was announced. The 45-year-old priest, according to information from “E”, was arrested late yesterday afternoon by police officers of the Larissa Security Sub-Directorate in the area of the Athens Intercity KTEL in Larissa, where he was with his wife for reasons being examined by the Hellenic Police.
The priest was arrested following a conviction, as it is known, last Wednesday, March 23, he left the Five-Member Criminal Court of Larissa before the court imposed a sentence of 15 years in prison, having been found guilty of embezzlement. The priest (without being a prisoner) with the completion of his apology, left the courtroom when the Court adjourned for a conference and in order to issue a decision after the prosecutor’s proposal. When the judges returned to the courtroom, after pronouncing the names of the accused, it was found that the 45-year-old, unlike the other two co-accused, was absent from the courtroom.
It is recalled that the priest was the only one finally convicted (the other priests and tax collectors of the Farsala Tax Office were acquitted of the charges) for the case of embezzlement of 3.8 million euros from the State, altering for a number of years the salaries of priests who served churches of Farsala.
It should be clarified that with the issuance of the decision of the Five-Member Criminal Court of Appeal, the priest should be arrested and taken to prison in order to have his new sentence counted (he had been sentenced to life imprisonment at first instance).
It is recalled that the 45-year-old was arrested in 2012 and until 2020, when he was released from prison, he served more than 8 years, so with the new sentence he will serve the rest, which according to estimates will not be long.
