A significant blow to the circuits that market “monkey” products has been achieved by the Mykonos Police Department, in the context of targeted actions to identify, identify and arrest persons active in illegal marketing – distribution and storage of imitation products.
Seven foreigners (-6- men and -1-woman) aged 24 to 50 were arrested in this case, who was charged with violating the provisions of the laws “on signals and Directive 2004/48/EC on the enforcement of the rights of intellectual property and other provisions”, ” Trade and Market Sectors “,” Reforming and Modernization of the Outdoor Trade Organization and Operation Framework “, as well as for forgery and fraud against co -operation.
In particular, after appropriate evaluation of data, utilization of pre -trial data, extensive – methodical police investigation and discreet field surveillance, it was determined that the perpetrators, jointly with unknown associates, had gone to Mykonos where they resided in “Klouvas” and “Klouvas” areas, ” They saved a multitude of imitation products.
Furthermore, the perpetrators were moving with IXE cars or motorcycle in tourist areas and beaches of the island, where moving pedestrians were approached by citizens, mainly foreign holidaymakers and on the pretext that the species they owned were genuine products of various branded companies.
It is estimated that the sale of the imitation products provided by the perpetrators would have a financial benefit of more than 50,000 euros.
To end their criminal activity, an extensive police operation was organized on Thursday (June 26, 2025) in which -4 -4 -4 -3 -3 – vehicle investigations were carried out in succession, the defendants were identified and appealed.
In the residences and possession of the perpetrators, they were found in total and seized:
- -1.671- Pieces of Treasury species, of which -637-hats, -570-sunglasses, -423- bags, -20- zones, -21- foils, all products of genuine trademarks of well-known houses
- -2.175-euro, -572- US dollars and -20 -Canada dollars
The products seized are to be destroyed, while the perpetrators were imposed by administrative penalties of -9,000 euros.
The detainees are taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Syros and two of them will initiate the return process as they lived illegally in our country.
The case is being solved in the specific operational actions of the South Aegean Police Services, to combat the illegal sale – disposal of imitation products and prevent the deception of the consumer public, which will continue throughout the summer – tourist season.
