A criminal group was dismantled by the Economic Police Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece, whose members were active in the illegal import of illicit alcoholic beverages from Bulgaria to our country and their further disposal – sale in the domestic market, for the purpose of illegal financial gain.
For the case, 3 people were arrested on Monday, March 28, 2022, after a coordinated police operation, in the area of ​​Thessaloniki, against whom a case was filed for criminal organization, forgery, as well as violations of the National Customs Code. The case file includes another person, accused of the same offenses.
As it turned out, the team members:
initially stored bottles of alcoholic beverages in their homes,
then, using appropriate material equipment (scrapers – ethyl alcohol – heat sealing devices), they affixed fake labels with Greek characters on the bottles, in order to resemble Greek, while
then they had them in a network of customers (coffee bar, mini market) in the prefecture of Thessaloniki.
In total, from the investigations carried out, found and confiscated:
2. 369 bottles of smuggled alcoholic beverages,
27,787 counterfeit labels of various spirits,
truck and 2 passenger vehicles as well
material equipment for scraping and heat sealing of forged labels.
The arrested, with the case file against them, were taken to the competent Prosecutor’s Office.
