Additional quantities of Liquefied Natural Gasgas storage in Italy and utilization of PPC lignite plants are the measures considered in Extraordinary meeting of the Crisis Management Team for energy supply which took place tonight.
The meeting was convened by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekasin order to evaluate all alternative scenarios to ensure the smooth energy supply of the country, in case of power outage gas supply from Russia.
It is worth noting that the “Scenarios” extend until March 2023. In particular, in meeting the following was decided:
– Until Friday o DESFA will submit a cost-benefit evaluation study to RIS for the addition of a floating Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tank at the Revythousa terminal.
– By Tuesday the Administrator will inform ΥΠΕΝ for the development of consultations with the Italian SNAM, for the possibilities of maintaining strategic gas reserves in underground warehouses in Italy.
– THE DESFA will update its estimates regarding the additional LNG loads that will be needed in the event of a complete cessation of gas flows from Russia.
– The scenarios will cover three time periods:
- The period April – October 2022.
- The period October 2022 – March 2023.
- The period April 2022 – March 2023.
– DEPA Commerce closely monitors the availability of LNG consignments in international markets in order to procure additional consignments if necessary.
– By Tuesday, PPC will submit to RIS the annual plan for lignite mining in its mines, to ensure the smooth operation of available lignite plants.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Energy and Mineral Raw Materials, Alexandra Sdoukou, the Director General of Energy of RIS, Dimitris Tsalemis, the President of RAE, Athanasios Dagoumas, the President of the Crisis Management Team, P.A. head of the Department of Energy Planning and Security of Supply of RAE, Maria Kerkidou, the managing director of DESFA, Maria Rita Galli, the managing director of DEPA Commerce, Costas Xifaras, the president and managing director of PPC, Giorgos PPC, Ioannis Kopanakis and the vice president of IPTO, Ioannis Margaris.
