Umbrellas, sun loungers and seats that had been illegally placed on the beach of Gerakini by residents and holidaymakers in the area, this morning removed a workshop by the Municipality of Polygyros Halkidiki, following complaints from other citizens who complained that they could not place their own umbrella.
Speaking to RES -EIA, Polygyros Mayor George Emmanouil pointed out that the phenomenon of illegal placement of seats and umbrellas in the sand begins in early summer and lasts until his end as – those who stay in the sea in front of the sea – They place in the sand concrete bases and support the umbrellas and sun loungers, which they blend with chains.
‘Some even, they paste in the sand and another three or four umbrellas next to their own As they don’t want to have other people next to them. They also host their friends or visitors, “he said.
“The problem in the municipality of Polygyros is very strong on the beaches of Gerakini and Kalyvia. But more generally The same is happening throughout Halkidikiwhere there are holiday homes in front of the sea or near the sea, “the mayor emphasized and assured that the checks would continue with as many machinery, resources and workforce the municipality.
“We went on a similar action last year. We have informed the world that it is illegal to go to permanently place an umbrella with a chain and sun lounger on the beach and to occupy the space that must be free for everyone, “he said.
The mayor also pointed out that those who had placed their umbrellas on the beach are currently protesting and moving away, but have been protesting so far those who do not stay in front of the sea and want to swim.
According to ERT’s report, all that the municipality has gathered will gather at some specific points where their owners can receive them, but without reinstating them.
The other side …
“I find this move excessive on the part of the Municipality of Polygyros, that is, to remove the umbrellas and chairs we put on the beach,” Mr Dimitris, a resident of the area in the summer since 1985, said on ERT’s camera.
The 75 -year -old spends his summers at his home near the sea in Gerakini and cannot, as he said, lift down the chair, umbrella and the table he has placed on the sand.
“It is a strictly ‘family’ beach, we come from the surrounding houses for years and the things we have brought are not umbrellas or sun loungers for professional use, as the beaches do,” said the holidaymaker, and it was impossible to accept that actions like him are not allowed by him.
