An incredible case of Greek bureaucracy is suffering a couple who returned from the Netherlands, bringing together his minor child, who had already been officially recognized by his biological father in accordance with Dutch law.

According to complaint of the couple at SKAI, the Greek authorities refuse to recognize the paternity of the Greek biological father, despite the fact that the child has already been officially recognized in the Netherlands. On the contrary, they believe that the child’s father is the former wife of the Dutch mother, based on the Greek legal presumption, who predicts that every child born within 300 days of divorce is considered a child of the first wife.

The result is to deny the child’s registration in the Greek registries and block the process of issuing Greek identity and other basic documents.

The couple had to appeal to justice to prove the obvious, that it is the father who has already been recognized abroad. After a long and exhausting judicial proceedings, the Greek court ruled that Dutch law prevailed in this case and justified the family.

Parents, indignant and exhausted by unjustified suffering, are trying to find out with the Greek authorities, as their child is still unable to obtain a Greek identity. Although they live permanently in Greece, the situation remains stagnant, as services do not accept the recognition of the father as it has done in the Netherlands.

The mother is a Dutch national and the child was born abroad. However, the Greek administration refuses to issue the necessary documents, from identity, to registering with public services, schools and insurance funds.
