Archimandrite Symeon Papadopoulos was named a new abbot and archbishop of the Sinai Monastery by the vote of the Sinai Brotherhood members.

He garnered 19 votes in a total of 20 votes, with his own vote being white in the ancient custom, according to Kathimerini.

Around the candidacy of Archimandrite Symeon Papadopoulos, both sides of the fraternity were finally drawn up, without any questioning of the process.

This evolution of the pure dominance of a person without any questioning is considered an important mortgage for a climate of unity and unity in the monastery.

It is noted that Archbishop Damianos had officially submitted his resignation from the post of the abbot of the Sinai Monastery, via a letter and today 14/9 had convened a general assembly with the sole issue of the election of a new abbot and Archbishop Sinai, Faran and Raito.

In detail the resignation letter:

“I stand kneeling and tearful in front of the Holy Larnaca with the immense relics of my mother and my food, a great martyr Catherine of Pansofos and patron saint Sinai.

I am thinking of the moment of my lonely shepherd, 64 years ago, who was unbearable in St. Vatos adopting me, I was my child too. Since then we have passed many forts and rain, we have encountered many dangers, like those who were constantly threatening our monastery in its polytens. But we also tasted grace visits such as the blessed presence of the younger Saints Paisios, Porphyrios and Eumenios.

I can boast in Christ that usually only love, affection and protection have enjoyed if the living and anointed Sinai monks from me. My mistakes many, but always the first interest of our monastery. With stability and perseverance I kept out of our monastery walls of those who were consulted and consulted. I’m not hiding that I’m afraid of her future.

In spite of my will and dreams, I have taken over our monastery with the knowledge that, as minimal, I am very much left with its material and spiritual displacement and its history. I did everything I could to show it in combination with a huge renovating work within it. With a full awareness of the finish of my 52 -year -old term on the rudder of our monastery, I humbly submit my resignation from abbot and Archbishop Sinai.

I wish Mrs. Theotokos, the incessant, to illuminate the Sinai Fathers, to choose the best and most capable of my succession. It will need the unity and support of everyone away from personal ambitions and obsessions, such as those we have unfortunately lived in, with the only concern of the good of our monastery.

The greatest problem of the judicial confiscation and seizure of our monastery’s property, which just begins, threatens its existence and historical continuity. At the same time our monastery remains legally non -existent in Egypt. The new Archbishop needs to be recognized and given Egyptian citizenship. The monks instead of the annual receiving long -term residence permit. Our respects and relics, our library to remain in the management of our monastery as a private collection. There are also major intra -Orthodox threats against the autonomy and normal status of our monastery.

Our steady helpers in all these the Greek state, our Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the Church of Cyprus and the Church of Greece.

It goes without saying that if the new Archbishop wants and calls in unity, which is a donation of the Holy Spirit, I will be on his side with my experience, love and support.

If I have wronged, I apologize and all those who despite my old age and my benefits have exhausted them forgiven what they were right. For the rest I wait for the sky to speak! Mostly I humbly apologize to the faithful Orthodox clergy and people for its downside.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and Father and the society of the Holy Spirit after all of us.
