Extraordinary measures

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food reinforces the regions in the battle against grief in sheep and goats. Specifically, 153 Veterinarians and Veterinary Personnel (81 Veterinarians and 72 other scientific executives of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning) will be in the field, contributing to the work of the Regions, as announced by Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Christos Kelis. The meeting in the Larissa Region was attended by the Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas and representatives of the local authorities and the Greek Police.

The meeting examined the extraordinary measures to be applied to Thessaly and in the affected areas of the country to tackle blessing in sheep and goats.

Specifically, as it was announced 153 veterinarians and veterinary staff of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the organizations supervised by it, will be directly mobilized in the affected regions (supporting the work of the competent DAOK) in order to contribute to controls, surveillance.

Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Christos Kellas said: “We are here to deal with the blessing that affects sheep and goats. The reinforcement of more than 150 veterinarians and executives of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the creation of 17 disinfectants will make a decisive contribution to stabilizing the situation, with the strict implementation of measures and the support of the police in the audits. ”

The Secretary General of Rural Development and Food Spyros Protopsaltis said: “We are fighting to stop the smallpox here and now. With enhanced controls, mobilization of additional veterinarians and the cooperation of all stakeholders, we shield our livestock farming, protect producers’ income. We will not let the disease threaten the production and economy of our countryside. “

Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas, among other things, stressed: “The situation is critical. We are at war. To date, five disinfectant stations have been operating since Monday we will reach seventeen to shield our livestock farming and protect producers’ income. “

After the meeting was completed, a visit to a disinfectant station in Makrychori took place. It is recalled that the Government, in close cooperation with the Region of Thessaly and all competent bodies, is implementing a comprehensive prevention and control plan, with the aim of immediately reducing the dispersion of the disease, protecting animal production and agricultural economy. An analogous against smallpox is applied to all regions affected by zoos.
