The internationally recognized sculptor Vassilis Doropoulos died on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the age of 83.
He was a member of the Paris Chamber of Art and the Paris Association, a member of the EETE (Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece) and the Hellenic Sculpture Association. The Board of Directors of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece/EETE expresses its regret over the death of the sculptor and his sincere condolences to his family and his relatives.
Vassilis Doropoulos was born in 1942 in Mesopotamia, Kastoria. He studied at the Ecole National Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in 1966 at M. Tondu’s painting atelier and in Etienne’s sculpture Martin Collamarini et Cesar from where he graduated in 1972. The main individual exhibitions are the retrospective painting exhibition in the Kastoria Municipal Booklet in Kastoria Kastoria Biblonus. 1967, in Galerie Syllogi 1978, Galerie Front 1996, Galerie des Beaux-Arts 1968 and Nicolas Poussin Les Andlys 1985, retrospective exhibition at L ‘UNESCO Paris 1993, in memory of my mother, retrospective exhibition of sculpture and painting under the auspices of the Greek Embassy, Greek House Parisi Paris 2006.
The main group exhibitions are: Pan -Hellenic from 1971 to 1987, Thessaloniki Cultural Capital of Culture Contemporary Greek Sculpture EETE, 1997, “Olympia 95” Outdoor Exhibition of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia 1995, Grand Palais 1969 Des Jardins du Luxembourg, Paris, Institut de France, Academie des Beaux Arts, Portrait Sculpture Competition “Paul Louis Weiler” 1974, etc.
Vassilis Doropoulos was also honored with many awards and awards such as: Salon des Artistes Francais, Grand Palais 1969, Portrait Paul Louis Weiller Award of the French Academy of Fine Arts 1974, Grand Prix Humanitaire de France, Medaille D’Argent, Diplome Et Ruban Et Ruban 1977, Prix Susse, 8me Biennale des Formes Humaines (Musee Rodin) 1978, Young Artists’ Youth Award, Paris 1978, Rubens Award, Paris 1981, Golden Phoenix Technicians, Paris 1982, G. Korydallos 1986, Monument of National Reconciliation, Athens 1989, Lions Club Award (Salon ‘Spring, Villeneuve La Garenne) 1990, Athens Club Award of 0000044660 for “Service in Art” 1998.
He participated in the International Sculpture Symposiums in Carrara Italy, Tokamachi Japan and Drama of Greece.
He also designed medals and sculptures for the Mint of Paris.
