Studies have begun to extend the Athens subway to Elliniko and Glyfada, while subsequent extensions are planned.
“We start from the extension from Anthoupoli to Ilion, with three stations in Palatian, Ilion and Agios Nikolaos, along with the modernization of the train station in Eleonas,” said Nikos Kouretas, Managing Director of the Hellenic Metro and 8th Metro.
Studies have also begun for the connection of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center with the Metro Network.
Concerning the time horizon of all these interventions, Mr Kouretas stressed that some studies would take five to ten years, some perhaps more.
“The subway projects are difficult, complex, complex, it takes many stages of studies until we reach them to contract them,” the Hellenic Metro CEO explained, adding that good studies, good supervision and immediate approach to the problems that arise are needed.
Finally, the need for both the intercity rail in the province and the fixed track to the large urban centers were developed.
