The 62 -year -old was released on restrictive terms who is accused of cutting illegal wood from the Aretus forest and selling them. It was arrested last week during a police operation and in a warrant for the Thessaloniki Special Investigator, before which he was called upon to explain illegal logging and timber trade, to a degree of felony.

The 62 -year -old admitted that he did illegal logging, but denied the criminal form of the act as it was given to him. He reportedly said that he was using wood for domestic use in order to warm his family.

Prosecutor and investigator decided to release him in two restrictive terms, namely: banning leaving the country and appearing at a police station.

The defendant, who declared a public pensioner, has often worked with the authorities for illegal logging, and was recently convicted of the death of a foreign worker in the same forest area (in the Municipality of Volvi) during logging work.

The victim was a 51 -year -old of Albanian descent, whose corpse was found in November 2022, after many days of advanced sepsis, while forensic investigation revealed that it had posed posthumous injuries caused by wildlife. The Serres Criminal Court sentenced him to 9 years in prison for a deadly report because he left the victim unidentified, which he had taken with him in the work, while the execution of the sentence was suspended in view of the Court of Appeal.
