The return 40 million euros It is calling for three districts by the Ministry of National Economy, due to over -priced supplies in the so -called “recycling houses” that have been located in public places in recent years such as squares.
The supply work began in 2020 and initially participated in the Attica Region. It concerned the supply and installation of recycling polycentes (the so -called houses). According to SKAI reporter Yiannis Souliotis, the Attica Region spent 48m euros on the supply of 130 such recycling houses.
Similar procurement agreements were signed by the Peloponnese Regions (58 houses with 17.4 million) and Crete (60 houses with 18 million euros). The project finally rose At € 83 million in total.
The project is EU -funded.
In 2023, the European Commission requested the contract for audit by the Committee on Financial Audit (EDEL). Edel’s first finding was completed at the end of 2023. A second – complementary survey was followed in the summer of 2025.

- No market research was done before the contract in question was signed, so the houses are purchased at a cost per unit of 300,000 euros, while competition sells respectively for 90,000 euros.
- While the competition was for packaging recycling, while the houses purchased were for recycling materials (glass, paper etc).
The Chardalia finding was undergoing to the financial prosecutor.
The Committee on Financial Audit imposes a fiscal correction of 50%. On Friday, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance asked the three regions of 45m euros to return to the Commission.
The issue is being investigated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, with some information –which have not been confirmed, however– To say that this case file may also end up in Parliament, as there is evidence of political involvement, ministers. However, it remains to be seen what the criminal development will be when the case file is completed, how it will be evaluated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and whether it will be forwarded to the National Delegation as it did with the OPECEPE case.
