“The issue of Lockdown for sheep and goats, because of the smallpox, is open and on the table. We try to avoid it in every way. The issue will be discussed at a meeting tomorrow, “Deputy Minister of Rural Development Christos Kellas told SKAI.
Mr Kellas explained that possible Lockdown involves “an extreme ban on movement (animals), a ban on feed or even milk”. He clarified that if imposed, it will not be less than 15 days, but added that every effort is made to avoid it.
The deputy minister also said that in the next 10 days, the payment of subsidies, which have been delayed due to OPECEPE, will begin. The farmers for feed, as well as in Thessaly, will be paid first in the fields of which were affected by Daniel’s bad weather.
Regarding the messages recently received by some farmers in Thessaly to refund money, Mr Kellas explained that when the natural disaster Daniel happened, some advances were given according to the farmers themselves and breeders themselves. After completing the personalized checks, however, it was found that in a few cases, 2,600 out of a total of 38,000, the advances they received were greater than those they were entitled to.
He said that anyone who wants can appeal to the note he received, with the local ELGA, with appropriate evidence, and added that any unnecessary paid would be paid to AADE in December 2027.
