A passex joint training in the presence of the Chief of the General Staff of National Defense (GEETHA), General Konstantinos Floros, and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Greece, Jeffrey Payat, took place today, Tuesday, November 16, in the central Aegean.
As announced by GEETHA, the head of GEETHA and the American ambassador boarded the amphibious command ship and headquarters ship of the US 6th Fleet “USS Mount Whitney”, as part of the Distinguished Visitors Day.
The joint training was attended by the frigate “Hydra”, the fast patrol missile “Ritsos” and fighter jets of the Air Force.
Among others, the Day of Distinguished Visitors was attended by the Deputy Minister of Development and Investment Nikos Papathanasis, the MP Georgios Koumoutsakos, the National Security Advisor Dr. Athanasios Dokos and the Greek shipowner George Prokopiou.
During the passex, communications objects and advanced maneuvers were carried out, while four Air Force F-16 fighter jets passed over the formation of the ships.
The joint training, the announcement added, is part of the ever-increasing frequency of joint exercises between the two countries, within the framework of the updated mutual defense cooperation agreement, and has helped to raise the level of operational readiness, combat capability and co-operation between participants.
In a post on twitter, the head of GEETHA states: “Bilateral Interdisciplinary Cooperation between Greece and the USA. “Dynamic military presence from sea and air, strengthens and strengthens ties and the Alliance.”
For his part, US Ambassador Jeffrey Payat tweeted, accompanied by video of Greek fighter jets flying, stressed: “Fantastic F-16 demonstration by the Greek Air Force over the USS Mount Whitney demonstrating the power of ours Alliance “.
In a post on twitter, the US Navy Europe / Africa / 6th Fleet underlines: “We were honored to host the Chief of General Staff and US Ambassador Jeffrey Payat as well as the distinguished Greek visitors to the USS 6th Commando Whitney, during an operation in the Aegean, today, November 16th. “Such visits are a testament to the strength of the Alliance.”
