About 52 kilometers from the city of Preveza, very close to the border with Arta and at an altitude of 160 meters is the picturesque village of Agios Georgios, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages of Philippiada. The 500 permanent residents of the village mainly deal with agriculture and livestock farming, and have to boast for many reasons.

First of all for the historical church of St. George and the famous “Drakotrypa”, the imposing Roman aqueduct that carried water to ancient Nicopolis, the famous Lake Ziros, the Asprochaliko cave with the waters of the Middle and the upper Paleolithic and the Paleolithic Paleolithic of the village, which have been operating incessantly for many decades, offering effective and ecological washing!

“We do not use detergents,” as the owners of a village watermark on the camera of “where there is Greece” in SKAI typically say. In the water, people take advantage of the power of running water, and within 20 minutes you take your clothes and carpets or blockers crystal clear. And all this without using electricity or infecting the aquifer with detergents and other cleaners. It is a traditional washing technique that characterizes the village, and the locals have been building their lives around the fountain all these years, next to the running waters, where they have their honor.

A few months ago (August 2025) the village was in danger of burning a large fire that burned in the area for days, but was eventually preserved, as was the unique nature and monuments surrounding it. There, in addition to the water mills, there are trout farms, as the waters are crystal clear and good quality. It is worth noting at this point that the city of Preveza and Lefkada drink water from the sources of St. George.

The inhabitants of the village love their place and insist traditionally at a time when everything is changing rapidly and is ephemeral. In Saint George, however, they choose a more ecological way of life, recognize the importance of the natural environment and fight daily for its preservation. Sure, washing your clothes on waterfall is not an easy task, it takes time and power to get them out of the water. Especially wet blocked, which are literally unaware after washing. But this practice also has its sweetness and an authenticity of another era, which is rare nowadays.
