In previous decades, Greece was facing shortages of its road infrastructure, both in terms of road and safety of the road network and at the level of organization, management and service to users.

The development of a national plan for the country’s large roads has led to a dense and reliable road network of European specifications with advanced management systems and a high level of service.

Their benefits are now visible, as by 2007-2021 accidents have been reduced by 83% to total motorways, while only 7% occurs in the concession network. At the same time, road axes serve all citizens and all means of transport (car, trucks, buses, bicycles), reducing even half the travel time, as was the case in Patras-Pyrgos, where time from 1 and 45 ‘decreased to 45’.
