The Regional Director of Education of Central Macedonia, Alexandros Koptsis, requested the conduct of a Sworn Administrative Examination (SOR), in order to look for possible responsibilities following a complaint by a mother for the beating of her child in a primary school in Thessaloniki.
The mother of the 11-year-old student of the 2nd Primary School of Paleokastro complained that her son was punched in the head by another student, causing him to fall down, while when he stood up, a second student also hit him. He also claimed that this is not the first such incident at the school, blaming the school administration for mishandling school violence.
“I learned about the incident this morning and asked to be informed about it by the school principal. I asked the director of the primary education of Western Thessaloniki to carry out an investigation, in order to establish whether there are responsibilities”, Mr. Koptsis told APE-MBE, clarifying that he also contacted the mother of the 11-year-old, with whom he is going to meet. “What I told her is to send the child to school, I assured her that the child will be safe at school, that it is our duty to take care of him,” he added, noting that a psychologist will also be at the primary school tomorrow.
The incident happened this week when students were entering classrooms after the second break. The students who beat the 11-year-old 6th grade student, causing him bruises, were not his classmates, but students of the 5th grade.
