Two kidney transplants were successfully performed at the University Hospital of Ioannina, giving life to two young people.

The first concerns a kidney transplant from a deceased donor and a 28-year-old female recipient. The second concerns a kidney transplant from a donor father to his 31-year-old son.

In a related announcement from the Hospital administration it is stated:

“In this procedure, the nephrectomy of the transplant was performed for the first time in our Hospital with a minimally invasive surgical technique, (laparoscopic nephrectomy) by the staff of the local transplant unit with the participation and support of Mr. Prodromos Laftsidis, an experienced and specialized transplant surgeon, Director of the Transplant Clinic of the Royal Hospital Free of London.

The postoperative course, both of the donor and of the two recipients, developed completely normally. The donor has already left the hospital, while the condition of the two recipients is completely satisfactory with excellent function of the transplants.
