The livestock breeders of Crete are taking to the streets again today, Wednesday, as dynamic mobilizations are expected in Heraklion and Chaniaas part of their continued protests over the serious problems plaguing the primary sector.

According to cretalive, the new protest comes in the wake of prolonged “financial suffocation” experienced by people in the industry, with increased production costs, low product prices and payment delays exacerbating the impasse.

In Heraklion as already known, the gathering of the breeders is scheduled for 12:00 noon on the BOAK in Karteros and in particular at the height of the KTEO, while in Chania the appointment is also given at 12:00, at the junction of Mourniawhere they will pre-congregate with their agricultural vehicles, continuing with a permanent road block on the National Highway, at the height of Tsikalaria.

The agricultural organizations emphasize that today’s mobilizations are a precursor to larger actions, culminating in the nationwide agricultural rally at the Syntagma, which is set for November 11, 2025. There, a strong “present” delegation from all over Crete is expected to be present, in the context of the collective coordination effort that has begun nationwide.

The farmers say they are determined to continue their struggle, essentially asking for support measures to be able to keep the island’s primary sector alive.

However, it is worth noting that on the occasion of today’s protests, the president of the Panhellenic Association of Hotel Managers Giorgos Pelecanakis returned yesterday as we wrote with a second open letter to the rural world of the island, expressing concern about the effects of the protests on tourism, but also respecting the fair demands of the primary sector.
