A website that uses the name of the “Municipality of Athens” has nothing to do with the Municipality and in fact the Municipal Authority will take legal action against it. As announced by the Municipality of Athens, the website entitled “QR Code Municipality of Athens – For Shops, Kiosks & Construction Projects” is not an official digital service or platform of the Municipality.
“Misleadingly uses part of the emblem of the Municipality of Athens and related documents, asking for a fee for issuing a QR code, regarding the concession and use of public space”the relevant announcement states.
The Municipality of Athens clarifies that:
– Has not created or authorized any such online service.
– Does not require any financial payment for issuing QR code.
Citizens and professionals are requested not to register personal data or business information on non-official websites and to exclusively visit the official website of the Municipality of Athens www.cityofathens.gr, for their interactions with the Municipality.
“The Municipality of Athens will initiate all legal procedures and remains at the disposal of the citizens for any clarification”finally states the relevant announcement of the municipal Authority and concludes: “We recommend being especially vigilant against bogus online services that attempt to exploit the public’s trust.”
