It opens today Tuesday at Komotini the compression station natural gasa project that decisively supports the country’s strategy to further strengthen its position as the main supply channel of SE Europe with natural gas.
The project, with a total cost of 134 million euros, strengthens the possibilities of natural gas exports from the Greek system to the countries of the region (Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine) and, by extension, the prospects for the development of the so-called “vertical corridor” supplying the region with natural gas through Greece.
This development comes a few days after the EU’s recent decisions to gradually wean itself off Russian natural gas – creating additional supply needs for EU member countries in the region), and on the eve of the meeting in Athens (next Thursday and Friday) of the intergovernmental Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), attended by government officials from Europe and the US. A key topic of discussion at the meeting will be the investments to create the infrastructure needed to move forward with the transition away from Russian natural gas and increase the supply of liquefied natural gas to the region through existing and new facilities.
