Babis Anagnostopoulos, who murdered his wife Caroline Krauts at their house in Glyka Nera in May 2021, is being brought to justice today.

The trial for the controversial case that shocked the whole of Greece will be held before the mixed jury, while according to the referral panel, the 33-year-old pilot will be tried for two crimes – manslaughter committed in a calm state of mind – and animal abuse – two complaint because it made other suspects and false testimony consistent.

The referral panel of the competent judicial council, which had fully accepted the referral proposal formally formulated by the prosecutor of the Court of First Instance, George Noulis, stated characteristically about the accused who has been in custody since June 22, 2021:

“After the specific heated quarrel of the couple, the accused decided to carry out the plan of extermination of his wife, which he had been cultivating in his mind for a long time, in order to get rid of her presence and be left alone with their child. His plan consisted of two parts, on the one hand, the murder of Krauts, and on the other hand, the appearance of her death as a product of a third act of unknown perpetrators in order to avoid his own criminal liability.

“While the baby was sleeping in the living room of the house and Krauts in the bedroom upstairs, the accused proceeded, using hand gloves, in a series of actions in order to create a virtual scene of” robbery after murder “in the house.”

As for the movements of the 33-year-old pilot immediately after the murder of his wife, he stated:

“Cameras were violently detached from the living room – living room that was placed on its roof so that the movements in support of the script that was inspired were not recorded. He proceeded to remove and destroy the memory card of this device in order to make it disappear. He dismantled the shutter of the basement of the maisonette, which he then hid in the laundry room, in order to create an “entrance gate” for the “unknown robbers” in the house.

He brought in artificial areas of the maisonette (living room) an artificial image of clutter, so that they display a naughty image of their research (indicatively, library disturbance, throwing on the floor of a plastic box of the monopoly board game) and

He removed the couple’s valuables (wedding rings, rings) from the living room, which he hid in a plastic bag in the tank of his motorcycle, in order to present them as “all of the influential robbers”.

According to the referral proposal of the prosecutor, after (the accused) completed the first part of the “scenography” of the countries on the ground floor of the house, around 4:05 he went up to the bedroom of the maisonette where his wife was sleeping unsuspectingly. Absolutely cool, he surprised the victim, who was sleeping in a prone position (muzzle), which he immobilized with his superior body weight. With the force of his hands he pressed Krouch’s head strongly towards the pillow, resulting in the blockage of the outer openings of her airways (mouth and nostrils). This led to a gradual difficulty in breathing, she vigorously tried to react, but this was not possible. This attempt of the accused to exterminate his wife lasted for five minutes and finally the victim ended up due to suffocation around 4:11. This is because during his murder he experienced intense physical and mental stress, with his death being not instantaneous but anxious. “After the murder of his wife, the always cool and self-controlled, accused immediately proceeded to the implementation of the second part of his criminal plan prepared from the beginning: The alleged invasion of robbers in his house, who killed his unfortunate wife”.
