Plevris in SKAI: After Easter, the measures relax – What will happen to the unvaccinated

The easing of measures for the coronavirus in Mayimmediately after Easter, announced the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, speaking to SKAI and the show “Today”.

“We can not say that we return to our lives before Covid, why the coronavirus is still here. “It’s just that from May onwards, there will be a further de-escalation,” he said, adding that at the moment for vaccinated citizens, the de-escalation is almost complete, with the exception of the mask.

As Mr. Plevris pointed out, what is being examined is that going into the summer we will see a framework for access to the premises, possibly without a certificate, with some other conditions.

“Vaccination certificates are valid as a European movement certificate. What is being considered is that going into the summer when the population is basically outdoors, it will be examined if and where the demonstration will be needed. “There will definitely be de-escalation,” he stressed.

However, he postponed the removal of the mask, pointing out that it is a relatively mild restriction that has to do with interiors or where there is congestion. “So we can be more cautious. “There is no need to make quick moves”, he underlined.

However, the Minister of Health clarified that in any case we are talking about the suspension of the measures and their full review in September.

For the celebration of Easter, he said that he will not be far from what we have today. “There is complete freedom of movement in the vaccinated population, both indoors and outdoors, gatherings are not prohibited. Of course, there will obviously be recommendations. However, we will not enter into restrictions. “It would be absurd, since people go to nightclubs without restriction, to set a limit now,” he said.

Regarding vaccination, he commented that despite the harsh measures, for which he has been personally accused, Greece has managed to be at the European average. “Before compulsory we had 55% in the general population and 65% in the adult, today we are at 74% and close to 85% respectively, while in those over 60 we are at 90%. “So at the moment the vaccination has been achieved,” he said.

Asked for the possibility of a fourth dose in the general populationMr. Plevris pointed out that “at the moment everything is possible” explaining that within April the ECDC and the EMA will have decided that we will move with the vaccination from now on.

Regarding the administration of a third dose to children, he commented that at the moment the official bodies have not decided on such a thing.

As for the fines for unvaccinated citizens over the age of 60, the minister stressed that the law has made it possible to suspend the fine, which will be done this week. “From April 15 onwards, there will be no fine and it will be re-examined in September”, he stressed and revealed that the cancellation of the fine for those who are now going to be vaccinated is on the table.

Asked about the mandatory vaccination of health workers, he said that this is a measure that is valid in many countries and reiterated that until December 31, when all Covid contracts have been extended, those health workers who have decided not to be vaccinated, remain in suspension. “As long as the pandemic lasts at least, they can not return to the NSS. “If the conditions of the pandemic change, then the position will be examined whether vaccination should be a formal qualification, regardless of the pandemic”, Mr. Plevris pointed out and clarified that in the recruitments that will be announced now, the health workers should obviously be vaccinated.
