by

ELAS proceeded with three arrests and the seizure of 14,800 liters of unleaded gas station, which was smuggling fuel into the market.

According to the Police, the service station maintained two hidden underground tanks with smuggled fuel, as well as a special mechanism for violating the system of inputs and outputs, in order to extract the fuels from them and sell them to unsuspecting consumers.

The case file for, as the case may be, violations of the laws of the National Customs Code, Organization of the Petroleum Market and Competition, includes, in addition to the three arrested, the owner of the gas station as well as the owner of a tanker vehicle.

It is noted that during the inspection carried out jointly with the Coordinating Operations Center for the fight against smuggling of products subject to excise duty, it was found that a tanker vehicle was supplying smuggled fuel through a special nozzle, which was carefully hidden in the two illegal underground tanks.

At the gas station, a special remote control was found, through which the switch was made between the legal and illegal tanks that fed the pumps of the gas station as well as a computer, which was connected and monitored the movement of fuel from the two illegal hidden underground tanks.

According to the Police, 14,800 liters of 95 octane unleaded gasoline, 76,120 euros, remote control, usb stick, hard disk and a tanker were located, among others, and confiscated.

Assistance in the audit was provided by steps of the Fuel Traffic Control and Storage Directorate (DEDAK), the Transport and Communications Directorate of the Western Sector of Athens, the Political Quality and Metrology Directorate of the Ministry of Development and Investment and the Directorate Criminological Investigations of the Hellenic Police Headquarters.

At the same time, the necessary tax data were obtained in order to carry out the relevant audit verifications and to determine the amount of smuggled fuel that was distributed outside the input-output system, while in addition the gas station pumps were sealed.

The remote control, the usb stick and hard drive will be sent to the Directorate of Criminological Investigations for laboratory examination, while the amount will be deposited in the Deposits and Loans Fund.

The arrested were taken to the competent Prosecutor’s Office.
