The ring in the center of Athens will not be valid tomorrow, Thursday, November 18, according to an announcement by the Attica General Police Directorate, due to the 24-hour strike of the employees in the fixed transport (STA.SY), as well as the work stoppage of the employees of the Organization Of Athens Public Transport (O.A.S.A).

GADA urges drivers to comply with the instructions of traffic wardens to avoid causing further traffic problems.

Earlier, a 24-hour strike on Thursday, November 18 in the Metro, electric railway and tram was decided by the workers’ federations on the occasion of the tragic accident, demanding immediate responsibility for the tragic accident on line 1 of the Metro and maintenance of infrastructure at work.

The fatal injury of the foreman, a subsidiary employee of the Fixed Communications, occurred on the morning of Tuesday 16/11/2021, in an accident that occurred during the grinding works of Line 1 of the Metro.

The announcement of the employees

“The tragic accident, which cost the life of our colleague Petros Yamalis and another employee rejoicing, was added to a series of accidents, which occur in the workplace, with employees sacrificing themselves on the altar of profit of uncontrolled private interests.

A few days ago, an employee at Cosco piers lost his life, others were injured in the shipbuilding and repair zone of Perama and this time the death “hit” Line 1 of STA.SY, with the victim being 41-year-old Petros and three other injured.

STA.SY employees will not accept another sacrifice in their workplace. We are going on a 24-hour strike on Thursday 11/18/21 to say goodbye to our colleague and we demand that a lot of light be shed on the causes of the accident and that those responsible be punished.

At the same time, we call, once again, the Management of STA.SY. to answer the critical questions:

1. Was the private line grinder tested before it was used in our network? And if so, from which body?

2. Was it examined if the required maintenance has been done, when and by whom?

3. Did the contracting company that undertook the project comply with the safety measures?

4. Is it true that the same machine was damaged again? If so, when and by whom was its restoration checked?

5. What is the procedure that provides for the escort of employees of STA.SY. in motorized contractor work?

All of the above highlight the special extreme conditions of a railway nature that are performed by the employees of Fixed Transport. The Management of STA.SY can not remain non-participating. It must give answers and stop putting, uncontrollably, in the network private, contracting interests, which on the altar of profit do not care about the safety of the employees “.
