After many months of proceedings, the Athens Council for Criminal Procedure unanimously decided on criminal assessment of the responsibilities of those prosecuted criminal for the deadly fire in Mati, with 102 dead, dozens injured and incalculable material damage.
According to information, the judges of the Council, unanimously, ruled that the investigation should be continued for five, then executives of the Fire Brigade, for the crime of lethal exposure which is a felony, in order to prove, against them, a charge more serious than that of the misdemeanor they had so far.
The interrogation will be carried out by the investigator Athanasios Marneris, who had conducted the investigation for a long time and had been in favor of category upgrade.
In parallel with the decision of the Judicial Council, 10 people are exempted from criminal liability, police, local government officials at the level of deputy mayors and officials of the Region, while another 13 are referred to trial, including the then regional governor Rena Dourou, while for high-ranking Firefighters will continue the investigation by Mr. Marneris.
The panel was issued by the judicial council with George Kassimis as chairman and members Theodora Traianidou and Niki Revythis as members. Theodora Traianidou was also the rapporteur.
