Papaevangelou: We will go to churches with masks – All protection measures for Easter

by

Watch the coronavirus update from Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gagathe Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee Experts Vana Papaevangelou and the Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and member of the Committee of Experts Gika Majorkinis.

The course of the coronation in our country shows a recession, he pointed out Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee of Experts Vana Papaevangelou during today’s update.

As he mentioned, the current cases are significantly lower than we are used to in the last weeks, while the RT index is at 0.85, describing the recession of a pandemic wave.

The measures for Easter

“We will go to church with masks,” she said, referring to Easter, while recommending a self-test before seeing vulnerable members of our family.

Asked about the masks, Ms. Papaevangelou underlined that the obligation of the mask is removed but we do not throw away the masks as there should be a personal risk assessment without needing anyone to be on top of us.

That the use of the mask is mandatory

She noted that it will be clearly defined in which cases the use of the mask will be mandatory, citing as examples the media, ships, schools, hospitals and nursing homes.

New regularity with care

The pandemic seems to be under control as we have consistently fewer cases and hospital admissions so things are better, said Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga.

Ms. Gaga said that the last two years, in her estimation, have shown us that we face new things every day and so we had to observe and change our way of life, which we did.

“We are starting a new regularity that I think we can move forward with,” Gaga said, noting that in any case we must be careful.

The virus will not go away

The virus is not expected to disappear but in any case we see a clear recession worldwide in terms of the pandemic, said Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and member of the Committee of Experts Gikas Majorkinis.

As Mr. Majorkinis explained, we are seeing a decrease in diagnoses below one million, to levels we have seen since the start of the Omicron wave.
At the same time, he said that the number of patients who die has decreased by 14%, the deaths are reduced and reach the beginning levels of the pandemic.

40 out of 47 countries show improvement in dispersal.

In Greece, the total number of diagnoses has decreased by 27% in the last week, and the pressure on the health system is also decreasing.

We are seeing a massive decrease in the indicators and we expect additional improvement of the image in our country in the coming days.

In any case, the virus is not expected to disappear, said Mr. Majorkinis, emphasizing the importance of being vaccinated.

At the same time, the professor considered it unlikely that we would see an outbreak of the virus in the summer, since this was not observed in the previous two summers.

“If anything goes wrong, we are here and we will take action,” Gaga added.
