It was dismantled by the Economic Police Directorate in collaboration with the Coordinating Operations Center (SEC) of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, a criminal organization that systematically smuggled ethyl alcohol (alcohol) from Bulgaria.
The criminal organization, as it emerged from the investigation, operated at least since November 2021, channeling smuggled ethyl alcohol to distilleries in Attica and various parts of Greece in order to manufacture illegal alcoholic beverages, reaping huge economic benefits. As ELAS points out, it is estimated that the missing duties and taxes amount to over 660,000 euros.
The smuggled ethyl alcohol was transported by tanker vehicles, in specially designed areas, where they had access only with a remote control, while in order not to reveal their action, they issued documents according to which they transported other types of liquids, which do not have Excise Tax.
According to the relevant announcement of ELAS, the countdown for the “dismantling” of the criminal organization began when police officers, during a coordinated operation, located a tanker vehicle delivering ethyl alcohol to a distillery in the prefecture of Fthiotida, with “liquid cleaning” documents »And recipient company in Italy.
As part of the operation, the driver of the tanker and the owner of the distillery were arrested and a case was filed against them for criminal organization and violations of the National Customs Code, while the case file includes three more wanted persons.
During the investigations carried out, with the assistance of a staff of the Stylida Customs, in the distillery company as well as in warehouses, house and vehicles, were found and confiscated:
– tank truck,
– 21,000 liters of smuggled ethyl alcohol,
– mechanical distillery equipment,
– empty plastic tanks,
– car and VAN,
– mobile phones and documents.
The arrested, with the case file against them, were taken to the competent Prosecutor’s Office.
