A Ferris wheel will be installed in the Cândido Portinari park, still this semester, which is being advertised as the largest in Latin America.
Funded by the São Paulo Big Wheel (SPBW), a company classified by public call from the state government to carry out the work, it will be 91 meters high and overlook the Pinheiros waterfront region, on the west side of the city of São Paulo.
The Ferris wheel outperforms tourist equivalents installed in cities like Paris and Chicago. But its structure falls short of the London Eye, which is 135 meters high and is located in the British capital, and also that of Dubai, which is 210 meters high, among others.
Until now, the Latin American record was held by RioStar, in Rio de Janeiro, with 88 meters.
The forecast is to open the São Paulo version during the school holidays in July, according to a note from the São Paulo State Department of Infrastructure and Environment. SPBW says it is still studying the price of admission to the attraction.
It is made up of 42 observation cabins with capacity for up to ten people each. The interior of the cabin will have an air conditioning system, monitoring by cameras, intercoms and wifi service.
Also part of the structure, which will have a total weight of more than a thousand tons, a lighting that will punctuate that part in the west side of the city.
The assembly is already in progress and will occupy an area of 4,500 square meters, which is adjacent to Villa-Lobos. The works must not interfere with the visitation of that public space, also according to a note from the secretary.
To be able to explore the leisure service, SPBW will pay the government R$ 141 thousand monthly or 10% of the billing value, whichever is higher. The values will be destined to the administration of the park.
The project also includes a living area integrated into Cândido Portinari, signed by Levisky Arquitetos Estratégia Urbana, with accessibility for people with mobility difficulties.
